On Wednesday, Uday Abdul-Hadi, a member of the Coordination Framework, ruled out the possibility of reaching an understanding between Kurdish factions to nominate a consensus candidate for the presidency, emphasizing that the disagreements among Kurdish forces remain deep.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, Abdul-Hadi stated, “It is unlikely that Kurdish forces will reach an understanding to nominate a consensus candidate for the presidency given the extent of the existing disagreements.” He explained that “all indications point towards resolving this constitutional matter through the national framework, via the Council of Representatives.”
He added that “a series of meetings will be held in Baghdad next Thursday between representatives of several political forces,” noting that “these meetings may lead to an agreement to schedule a session of the Council of Representatives next week to proceed with resolving the presidential issue and voting on one of the candidates, leaving the final decision to the members of parliament.”
Abdul-Hadi pointed out that “this matter cannot be left open indefinitely,” stressing that “next week will be decisive in any case for finalizing the presidential election.”
