A responsible source in Erbil Governorate revealed on Tuesday that arrest warrants have been issued for three prominent leaders of the “Progress” party, headed by Mohammed al-Halbousi, on charges of involvement in widespread forgery of official documents issued by the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The source told Al-Maalomah that “Erbil courts issued official arrest warrants for MP Shahd Ahmed Khalil and two other party leaders after uncovering their involvement in forging official documents in coordination with forgery networks led by ruling parties in the northern governorates.”
The source added that “there is an additional list of MPs and prominent leaders in al-Halbousi’s party for whom arrest warrants will be issued successively on charges related to financial corruption and tampering with official documents,” noting that “confirmed information indicates that a number of party leaders residing in Erbil have fled towards Anbar and Turkey, preempting the issuance of judicial warrants against them on charges of forgery and undermining the security and stability of the region.”
