MP Raad al-Dahlaki, from the “Al-Azm” coalition, ruled out on Tuesday that “the lack of Kurdish agreement” was behind the delay in holding the session to elect the president of the republic, pointing out that political conflicts between blocs are the main reason for obstructing the entitlement.

Al-Dahlaki told Shafaq News Agency that “the failure to hold a session to elect the president of the republic is not related to an agreement or lack of agreement between the Kurdish parties, but rather it is the political conflicts that are disrupting the election session.”

He added that “previous parliamentary sessions did not witness the nomination of a single candidate for the position of President of the Republic, with the exception of the first session in which Jalal Talabani was elected, while subsequent sessions witnessed more than one candidate and competition within the House of Representatives.”

He pointed out that “political disputes weaken the parliament and its legislative and oversight procedures during the current session,” calling on members of the council to “pressure the parliament’s leadership to include the election of the president of the republic in tomorrow’s session, Wednesday, and in every subsequent session, to embarrass the political blocs and hold them responsible for ending this entitlement.”

Al-Dahlaki explained that “the disagreements between the Coordination Framework blocs and other political blocs regarding the nomination of a prime minister candidate have led to a political deadlock and a violation of the constitution.”

He concluded by saying that “members of the House of Representatives had hoped that the sixth session would be different from its predecessors, but the previous scenarios were repeated, which led to the disruption of the election of the President of the Republic and the assignment of a candidate to form the government.”

It is noted that the media department of the House of Representatives announced the agenda for the council session scheduled to be held tomorrow, Wednesday, which included a number of items, while the agenda did not include the item of electing the president of the republic.
