Bilal al-Nasiri, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed today, Thursday, that the position of the ousted Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, regarding foreign dictates raises questions, noting that the call to submit to the American decision represents a questioning of the democratic process and the decision of the Iraqi people.
Al-Nasiri told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the Coordination Framework is committed to standing firm on nominating Al-Maliki for the position of Prime Minister, and rejects any attempts at external influence on the political process in Iraq. The tweet by US President Donald Trump against Mr. Al-Maliki does not represent an official US political position, and it is merely an emotional stance that should not be interpreted as a threat to the stability of Iraq.”
He added that “everyone can interpret Al-Halbousi’s position as calling on some parties to disregard national sovereignty and respond to external dictates, and this is a surprising position, indicating that the State of Law coalition will not gamble with the Iraqi fate or political and economic stability because of a tweet or external dictates.”
Al-Nasiri pointed out that “the coordination framework is committed to preserving national interests and political stability, and that any attempts to seek external support are unacceptable and do not align with the spirit of Iraqi democracy, stressing that the coordination framework is committed to preserving national interests and political stability.”
He concluded by emphasizing that “the Coordination Framework’s position is firm and clear, committed to dialogue with all parties to ensure that Iraq is not dragged into any political or economic crises as a result of external pressures, and al-Maliki’s nomination remains in place and there is no turning back.”
