Member of Parliament, MP Mohammed al-Shammari, criticized political blocs on Thursday for failing to urge their members to attend parliamentary sessions, stressing that the continuation of this situation constitutes a negative start to the current parliamentary term and may prompt him and a number of other MPs to demand the dissolution of Parliament.
Al-Shammari told the Information Agency, “The last two sessions did not achieve a quorum, with attendance not exceeding 70 MPs. This is a dangerous indicator and an inauspicious start to the new electoral term.”
He added, “The attendance of members of Parliament at sessions is a binding duty, especially given the complex security and political circumstances Iraq and the region are experiencing, including the ongoing tension between Tehran and Washington, as well as the financial and economic crisis that necessitates the swift formation of a fully empowered government.”
Al-Shammari emphasized, “If a quorum is not achieved in the next session, I and a number of other members of Parliament will submit a formal request to dissolve Parliament.”
