MP Badr Al-Moussawi confirmed that Trump’s latest tweet on Iraqi affairs reflects internal and regional interference more than it represents an official American position.
Al-Moussawi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “Trump’s tweet appeared to have been written by Iraqi hands, indicating that there are internal parties behind directing this position.”
He added that “a Sunni political party considered Trump’s tweet as a vindication for them in the existing political disputes, which confirms that the tweet was used for internal purposes.”
Al-Moussawi pointed out that “Gulf parties pushed for a stance from Trump against Nouri al-Maliki, in an attempt to influence the course of government formation and to put pressure on the forces of the Coordination Framework.”
He explained that “the coordination framework formed a special committee that will negotiate with political partners regarding the nomination of Maliki for the position of Prime Minister, within the constitutional frameworks and national understandings.”
He explained that “the United States had no declared or opposing stance towards Maliki before this tweet was issued, which reinforces the hypothesis that what happened does not reflect a clear American policy.”
He concluded by saying that the next prime minister will not be the product of external dictates or personal agreements, but will be chosen according to the internal dynamics of Iraq and the will of the winning political forces, far removed from the dictates of Trump or any other party.
