The coordinating framework, which includes Shiite political forces, is counting on the possibility of a change in the United States’ position regarding the framework’s candidate for forming the government, Nouri al-Maliki, in light of regional developments and efforts to spare Iraq the repercussions of international conflicts.

Naseem Abdullah, a member of the coordination framework for the Eqtidaar Party, told Shafaq News Agency that “the political forces are aware of the magnitude of the challenge facing the region, and therefore will work to keep the country away from international conflicts in the region and avoid any adverse repercussions, and based on that, all options are available.”

Abdullah did not rule out that Washington might change its position on the Coordination Framework candidate for the premiership, Nouri al-Maliki, if understandings were reached that would preserve the rights of the component and spare the country and the region any negative consequences.

For his part, the head of the Design Alliance, which is part of the Coordination Framework, Amer Al-Fayez, told Shafaq News Agency that “the forces of the Framework believe that the issue of forming the government by the Coordination Framework’s candidate, Nouri Al-Maliki, has the consensus of the parties and components of the Shiite House, but it is linked to the announcement of the presidential candidate and the vote on him within Parliament, and then the Framework’s candidate is tasked with forming the government cabinet within 30 days from the date of his assignment.”

The coordinating framework intends to hold a meeting this Saturday evening to discuss the files of the presidency and the prime ministership, at a time when attention is focused on the House of Representatives session scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, to elect the president.

The framework seeks to unify its position on the prime ministership file in light of the American objection to the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki, and to explore political options to overcome these complications and ensure the continuation of the political process.

The leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, reiterated on Saturday his insistence on running for the position of Prime Minister in the next government, despite American rejection of this, stressing that the selection of the Prime Minister is a national matter subject to the will of the people and constitutional institutions.

It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump said last Tuesday, via a post on the “Truth Social” platform, that the return of former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to the premiership is “something that should not be allowed,” considering that Iraq “slid into poverty and chaos” during his previous term.
