The coordinating framework, which includes Shiite political forces, intends to hold an important meeting on Saturday evening to discuss the files of the presidency and the prime ministership.

A political source told Shafaq News Agency that “a meeting of the leaders of the Coordination Framework is expected this evening to discuss crucial issues related to the upcoming political phase in Iraq,” indicating that “the meeting comes at a time when attention is focused on the parliamentary session scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, which is dedicated to electing the President of the Republic.”

He explained that “the meeting focuses on two main issues. The first relates to the coordinating framework’s attempt to unify its position to support a single candidate for the presidency, with the aim of resolving the election process and avoiding any potential division within the largest political bloc in the country.”

According to the source, the second issue is related to the issue of the premiership, especially after the explicit American objection to the nomination of the leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, for the position of prime minister,” noting that “the meeting will focus on discussing political and diplomatic solutions to overcome this crisis, in a way that ensures the continuation of the political process within the framework of understandings at home and abroad.”

The source continued, saying that “the meeting is expected to produce clear recommendations that define the next steps for the coordination framework, whether with regard to the election of the President of the Republic or to amending the strategies for nominating the Prime Minister in accordance with international and internal pressures.”

According to the House of Representatives’ agenda published yesterday, the Speaker of the House has set tomorrow, Sunday, as the date for holding the fifth session, which includes the swearing-in of some members of parliament and the election of the President of the Republic.

It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump said last Tuesday, via a post on the “Truth Social” platform, that the return of former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to the premiership is “something that should not be allowed,” considering that Iraq “slid into poverty and chaos” during his previous term.
