The leaders of the Coordination Framework affirmed on Wednesday evening their “commitment” to the leader of the State of Law Coalition to head the new government, considering the statements of US President Donald Trump in this regard as a “violation of sovereignty.”
An informed source within the framework told Shafaq News Agency that the leaders of the Coordination Framework held a meeting in the office of the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, in response to the statements of US President Donald Trump, where they stressed “the need to hold a session to elect the President of the Republic next week and to unify the visions among the Kurdish parties to agree on a candidate to assume the presidency of the Republic.”
He added that the leaders of the coordination framework rejected the American intervention during the meeting, considering that Trump’s statements “represent a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and interference in internal affairs.”
The source indicated that the leaders of the framework affirmed their commitment to Nouri al-Maliki as a candidate for the position of Prime Minister in the next government, and that “al-Maliki is capable of forming his government after being tasked by the President of the Republic elected by Parliament.”
On Tuesday evening, a source within the coordination framework informed Shafaq News Agency that the framework’s leadership had invited its members to hold an emergency meeting at the office of the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, on Wednesday evening.
The source said the meeting was held “to discuss Washington’s latest position on the political process in Iraq,” adding that the meeting’s agenda also included discussions on the presidency.
This comes against the backdrop of a post by US President Donald Trump on the “Truth Social” platform, in which he warned against Maliki’s return to the premiership, suggesting that the United States “will not help Iraq” if he is chosen, and linking this to his previous rule and the accompanying “chaos and poverty”.
