A responsible source within the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) confirmed that the PUK’s candidate, Nizar Amidi, has the support of the political blocs to vote for him in today’s session to elect the president of the republic.
The source told Al-Maalouma, “There is great optimism that the PUK’s candidate for the presidency, Nizar Amidi, will obtain the votes of the other political blocs in today’s parliamentary session.”
He added, “The PUK has strong relationships with the political blocs, and everyone voted for the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) candidate for the position of second deputy speaker of parliament. Therefore, there is respect for political custom and the distribution of positions among the parties.” He ruled out the possibility that the political parties would vote for the KDP candidate for the presidency.
He explained, “The PUK has an alliance with the Coordination Framework and the State Administration Coalition, and although the matter is democratic, alliances have an impact on the distribution of positions and adherence to political custom.”
