Mohammed Dhari al-Fahdawi, a leader in the Azm Alliance, revealed on Tuesday that the Coordination Framework has intervened as a mediator between the two Kurdish parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), to resolve the impasse over the presidency after the election session failed.
Al-Fahdawi told the Information Agency, “Disagreements within the Kurdish political bloc are hindering the formation of the new government. Reports indicate that the Coordination Framework has stepped in to mediate between the two Kurdish parties in an attempt to bridge the gap between the two factions vying for the presidency. This comes after the failure to agree on a consensus candidate, with the PUK insisting on its right to the position, while the KDP, led by Masoud Barzani, is seeking concessions from other Kurdish parties in exchange for their votes for the PUK candidate.”
He added, “The Kurdish-Kurdish disputes are caused by Barzani and his party’s greed for sovereign positions. No Kurdish disputes were recorded during previous parliamentary sessions, except for the current one, where the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) suddenly demanded that Barzani nominate one of its leaders to compete for the presidency.” He explained that “the coordination framework is striving to find satisfactory solutions that will lead to a breakthrough in nominating a consensus candidate for the presidency.”
He emphasized that “Barzani is trying to create an artificial crisis within the Kurdish political sphere to gain political advantages with transparent objectives.”
