Zero megawatts from Iran... Electricity imports to Iraq haltedShafaq News – Baghdad
Iranian electricity imports to Iraq have stopped completely, after the Iranian company announced that supplies have dropped to zero megawatts for the time being, amid political and economic pressures and complex international circumstances.

The company said in a statement that Iran currently exports 20 megawatts to Pakistan and 30 megawatts to Afghanistan, while importing 507 megawatts of electricity from Turkmenistan and Armenia, reflecting a significant decline in the volume of its foreign exports.

Mohammad Allahdad, deputy for transport and foreign trade affairs at the Iranian Electricity Company, said that the halt in electricity exports to Iraq is due to international pressures and political relations, in addition to complex regional circumstances, noting that electricity exports had also previously stopped during the month of February in some years.

He added that electricity exchange projects are still in place but are experiencing a slowdown in implementation due to regional conditions, negotiations, difficulties in the movement of officials, in addition to other technical and logistical problems.

He explained that the internet outage did not affect electricity production at power plants, but it did lead to a decrease in electricity consumption by cryptocurrency mining activities by about 1,500 megawatts compared to the previous period.
