Essam Shaker, a member of the Coordination Framework, confirmed on Sunday that the upcoming government, headed by Nouri al-Maliki, will adopt a different strategy for managing Iraq’s economic situation to address the financial crisis and reduce reliance on oil as the primary source of state revenue.
Shaker told Al-Maalouma, “The Coordination Framework’s selection of al-Maliki as its candidate for prime minister came after a series of meetings that resulted in supporting this figure, who possesses the experience, competence, and expertise in managing the state, especially since the next government will face numerous complex issues and challenges.”
He added, “Al-Maliki will adopt a comprehensive national strategy to change the mechanism of managing the Iraqi economy by reducing dependence on oil as the primary source of state revenue, pursuing economic reforms that contribute to correcting the financial and economic situation, and addressing the issue of corruption with bold decisions.”
Shaker pointed out that “the next phase will be crucial, and the new government faces complex issues, but we are confident in al-Maliki’s ability to handle them efficiently and decisively.”
