Najat al-Ta’i, a member of the Azm Alliance, confirmed on Thursday that Sunni political forces have reached near-final understandings regarding their participation in the next government, within the framework of ongoing political negotiations.
Speaking to Al-Ma’louma, al-Ta’i stated, “The National Political Council, which includes Sunni forces, has reached near-final understandings on the mechanism for participation in the next government, specifically regarding the ministerial portfolios allocated to them. Sunni forces will be in a position to nominate candidates for these portfolios.”
She added, “The atmosphere within the Sunni forces is positive, and there are no fundamental disagreements, which makes passing these understandings easy and without complications.” She noted that “the Sunni forces are awaiting the Coordination Framework’s position on announcing its candidate for prime minister, as this represents the decisive step towards entering the final stage of government formation.”
Al-Ta’i indicated that “the next phase of government formation is expected to be characterized by flexibility and smoothness, and that resolving the vote for the presidency will not take long, given the understandings that may crystallize in the next few days,” stressing that “the final decision will be made through a vote within the House of Representatives.”
