Zuhair Al-Jalabi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed today that the majority of the forces within the Coordination Framework agree on the coalition leader, Nouri Al-Maliki, assuming the premiership at the present stage, noting that Al-Maliki possesses the qualities of consensus internally and externally to manage the next stage.

Al-Jalabi told Al-Maalouma that “about 80 percent of the forces within the Coordination Framework agree that Nouri al-Maliki should assume the premiership, given the political, security and economic circumstances the country is going through.”

He added that “Maliki has extensive political experience and a clear ability to manage internal balances, as well as regional and international relations that enable him to open channels of understanding with various parties,” indicating that “these factors make him a suitable choice to lead the current phase.”

Al-Jalabi pointed out that “no rejectionist positions were recorded from the main leaders within the Shiite bloc regarding al-Maliki assuming this position,” stressing that “talk of sharp divisions within the framework does not reflect the actual political reality.”

Al-Jalabi called for “fairness in dealing with the upcoming political entitlements, and not being drawn into smear campaigns or character assassination,” noting that “the stage requires a rational discourse that contributes to the stability of the political scene and pushes the political process forward.”

Al-Jalabi concluded by saying that “consensus within the coordination framework will play a decisive role in shaping the features of the next government,” stressing that “the coming weeks will witness intensive political activity to resolve this issue according to the principles of balance and national partnership.”
