The former State of Law Coalition MP, Mohammed al-Shammari, confirmed on Thursday that there is a genuine political consensus on nominating Nouri al-Maliki for the position of Iraq’s next prime minister. He indicated that this agreement came as part of the recent understanding between Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and al-Maliki, whereby al-Sudani conceded to al-Maliki, thus finalizing the matter.
Al-Shammari told the Information Agency that “the next government will face significant challenges, most notably the economic situation and the difficulty of improving citizens’ living conditions, in addition to regional security tensions.”
He added that “financial issues and foreign relations will place additional pressure on the new government.”
Al-Shammari explained that “overcoming these challenges requires experienced leadership and a strong will,” stressing that al-Maliki possesses this will, but he faces a difficult path that requires considerable effort to ensure the country’s stability and improve the lives of its citizens.
