A security source in Anbar province revealed on Wednesday that US forces have terminated the services of more than a thousand Iraqi workers employed as cleaners inside the Ain al-Assad base in western Anbar, due to reasons related to the troop reduction process.
The source told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “US forces terminated the services of approximately one thousand daily wage workers inside the Ain al-Assad base in the al-Baghdadi district of Hit, coinciding with the ongoing evacuation of US forces from the base towards Harir Air Base in northern Iraq.”
The source added that “US forces also terminated the contracts of other Iraqi workers in various specialties from different provinces,” noting that “the layoffs were part of a package of measures that included halting contracts for the supply of food and construction materials, and suspending construction of buildings inside the base until further notice.” The source
explained that “this measure coincided with the termination of contracts for a number of private companies operating inside Ain al-Assad Air Base, in parallel with the reduction in the number of US forces at the base.”
