Al-Malikis nomination - between secrecy and maneuvering... the framework is quietly reshaping the political landscapeInformation/Report..
The Iraqi political scene continues its sharp fluctuations in a stage that is considered one of the most complex since the formation of the political system, as personal ambitions intersect with party calculations, and local wills clash with regional and international pressures, at a time when the demands of the street are escalating for real change that puts an end to the state of stagnation and the recycling of the same names.

Amid these transformations, the issue of the prime ministership stands out as one of the most sensitive files, amid continuous speculation about the identity of the next candidate, and the extent of the agreements being made behind closed doors within the coordinating framework, which still holds the keys to decision-making in the Shiite house, and is trying to avoid any division that may threaten its cohesion.

In this context, Salah Boushi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, revealed the reasons why the Coordination Framework has not yet officially announced the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki as a candidate for Prime Minister, stressing that the Framework is currently working on “creating” political outcomes after completing the details of engineering understandings between the various forces.

In a statement to Al-Maalouma, Boushi said that political understandings have become the cornerstone at this stage, in order to produce outcomes that guarantee constitutional entitlements among the various forces, noting that the coordination framework is responsible for translating these balances in a manner consistent with the nature of the stage and its complexities.

He added that the framework has completed the internal agreements between its components, and it is hoped that the official announcement of al-Maliki’s candidacy will be made soon, noting that official statements and decisions are issued exclusively by the framework as the political face of these understandings, in order to ensure the move towards a stable government that responds to constitutional and political requirements.

Bushi explained that the reason for the lack of an official announcement so far is due to waiting for the resolution of the presidential issue, after which the nomination of Maliki to head the executive authority will be announced, within the framework of a calculated constitutional and political sequence.

In contrast, statements by Kurdistan Democratic Party member Haitham Al-Mayahi added a different dimension to the scene, as he spoke of fundamental shifts in the political landscape, with prominent figures leaving the circle of influence, indicating that the next stage will produce new equations and unconventional alliances.

Al-Mayahi believes that Nouri al-Maliki may be inclined to nominate an alternative figure for the premiership, in light of the changes within the Shiite political establishment and the efforts to rearrange the cards within the coordination framework in line with regional and internal changes.

He also stressed that the relationship between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Shiite forces, especially Maliki and the Coordination Framework, remains “very good,” and is based on common interests and political understandings, noting that the next stage requires more flexible alliances, far from exclusionary policies.

Al-Mayahi concluded by saying that the return of Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to the premiership has become “one of the seven impossibilities,” in light of the changing political mood inside and outside parliament, and the escalating popular pressures demanding new faces and a different approach.

In light of these developments, the coordinating framework appears to be operating according to a strategy of “cautious calm,” avoiding premature announcements and preferring to finalize all points of understanding before revealing its final hand. Amidst talk of a postponed nomination and analyses of potential alternatives, the scene remains open to multiple scenarios, governed by a single equation: whoever succeeds in establishing themselves as the least costly and most widely accepted option will lead the next phase, at a time when the public is no longer willing to accept delayed answers or temporary promises.
