The Shiite bloc is waiting for its Kurdish neighbor to decide on the position of President of the Republic and agree on a candidate, or to present the figures submitted for candidacy in order to vote on one of them to be President of the Republic. This will be followed by the presentation of the agreed-upon coordinating framework candidate in order to assign him the task of forming the government and choosing the new ministerial cabinet, especially after the framework settled its position between Al-Sudani and Al-Maliki to ensure the latter obtains a third term after understandings between the two parties to settle matters and proceed with Al-Maliki to lead Iraq in the next stage.
Salah Boushi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, told Al-Maalomah that “the coordination framework is moving towards producing outcomes after it completed all the details in engineering the political understandings between the various parties and forces,” adding that “the coordination framework has completed the agreements between the forces that make it up, and it is hoped that the official announcement of Nouri al-Maliki’s candidacy for the premiership will be made soon, and the decisions of the framework are expected to be issued as it is the true face of official statements and speeches, in order to move towards a stable government that responds to all the requirements and understandings.”
He pointed out that “the framework has not officially announced al-Maliki’s candidacy for the presidency, as it is waiting for the completion of the entitlement represented by the presidency of the republic, and then it will announce the nomination of al-Maliki as head of the executive authority.”
For his part, Imran al-Karkoushi, a leader in the State of Law Coalition, confirmed to Al-Maalouma that “the political forces have reached an advanced stage of understandings, and the name of the candidate for the position of Prime Minister has been decided in conjunction with Kurdish understandings to choose the President of the Republic,” indicating that “Nouri al-Maliki has become the most prominent candidate for the premiership, with convictions within the national sphere and the rest of the components. Consequently, the coordination framework has made great strides in the file of agreements without the presence of an effective opposition, in addition to the fact that there are positive positions towards al-Maliki’s personality, as well as a clear political welcome for his nomination.”
He pointed out that “the selection of the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic may be decided in a single parliamentary session, as the selection of Maliki came after important understandings within the framework forces and consideration of the positions of the religious authority.”
In a related context, MP Mansour Al-Baiji, from the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, explained in a televised statement followed by Al-Maalouma, that “Al-Sudani conceded to Al-Maliki by nominating him for the premiership due to the seriousness of the stage, in addition to the fact that the framework had informed Al-Maliki and Al-Sudani in advance of the understanding between them.”
He continued: “The Reconstruction Coalition supports granting Maliki the premiership, as Sudani and Maliki have agreed to step aside and have informed the coalition. Therefore, the Reconstruction Coalition will vote for Maliki as prime minister for a third term. However, if the coalition rejects Maliki, they will revert to nominating Sudani.”
