Former MP Abdul Hadi al-Saadawi, a leading figure in the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, asserted on Saturday that reports circulating in some political and media circles regarding a compromise candidate for prime minister with American support are nothing more than baseless speculation.
Speaking to the Information Agency, al-Saadawi stated, “The selection of the prime minister within the coordination framework is subject to electoral weight and is not governed by any external influences, except for consultation without imposing any will.”
He added, “Talk of a compromise candidate backed by the United States is being promoted by some political and media entities, and these proposals are unrealistic and lack any factual basis.”
Al-Saadawi indicated that “the next phase requires a strong and balanced figure capable of managing internal and external affairs efficiently,” explaining that “it is still too early to delve into the matter of naming the next prime minister, but he predicted that the choice for the premiership would ultimately be between Nouri al-Maliki and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.”
