Independent politician Ayed al-Hilali ruled out the possibility of the coordinating body resolving the issue of nominating a prime minister, while simultaneously warning against bringing in a compromise candidate for the position.
Al-Hilali told Al-Maalouma, “Despite the ongoing activity and discussions, it is unlikely that the coordinating body will resolve the issue of selecting a prime ministerial candidate in the current timeframe.”
He added, “Nothing has been leaked about the meetings that took place between Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, but they witnessed extensive discussions on various approaches. Based on this, it is expected that there is a state of division within the coordinating body.”
He explained that “the coordinating body has split within itself during the current period, and therefore there is no consensus or agreement on a specific figure within the body, especially since there is a veto against al-Maliki internally, regionally, and internationally. Furthermore, bringing in a compromise candidate would be a political gamble that would bring in an inexperienced figure to such a position, facing enormous internal challenges in addition to external ones.”
