A US official renews talk of dismantling Iraqi “militias”.

The acting US ambassador to Baghdad stressed on Wednesday evening the need to dismantle “Iranian-backed militias” in Iraq, stressing that they undermine the country’s sovereignty, threaten both Americans and Iraqis, and plunder Iraqi resources.
The US Embassy in Baghdad posted a statement saying that “Chargé d’Affaires Joshua Harris met with Iraqi Justice Minister Khalid Shawani to discuss common interests in protecting Iraq’s sovereignty, defeating terrorism, and promoting regional stability.”
The post stated that the United States would continue to speak clearly about the urgent need to “dismantle Iranian-backed militias,” accusing them of “undermining Iraq’s sovereignty, threatening Americans and Iraqis, and plundering Iraqi resources.”
