An economist says the dollar exchange rate will continue to rise for these reasonsInformation/Baghdad –
Economic expert Diaa Mohsen confirmed on Tuesday that the rapid rise in the dollar exchange rate is due to a series of measures taken by the caretaker government, in addition to other financial and economic factors.
Mohsen told the Information Agency that “the dollar exchange rate reaching approximately 150 dinars per 100 dollars is a natural consequence of the current government’s decisions, particularly the increase in taxes and customs tariffs on imported goods, which were implemented at the beginning of this year.”
He indicated that “the caretaker government, or the incoming government, is considering revising the exchange rate by raising it to between 150,000 and 160,000 dinars per 100 dollars, instead of the official rate of 132,000 dinars.”
Mohsen pointed out that “among the other reasons for the dollar’s rise is the budget deficit exceeding its planned limits, resulting from the increase in domestic debt, as well as the government’s debt to contractors, estimated at around 30 trillion dinars.”
He explained that “the general budget incurred additional losses due to the adoption of an oil price of $70 per barrel, while it is currently selling for around $60,” emphasizing that “these combined factors created a state of anxiety in the local financial market, leading to a decrease in the supply of dollars and a rise in its price.”
