Abbas Al-Bayati, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed that the meeting that brought together the coalition leader Nouri Al-Maliki and Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani did not touch on the issue of a second term in any way, denying the existence of any discussions related to electoral entitlements.
Al-Bayati told Al-Maalouma that the meeting focused on current political, security and economic issues, in addition to discussing developments in regional conditions and their impact on the Iraqi interior, stressing that the coordination framework is still working according to the principle of collective understanding and managing the current stage without entering into premature calculations.
He added that what is known as the “compromise candidate” is not on the table at all within the coordination framework, explaining that talk about this option falls within the realm of media analyses and is not based on any real data or existing political agreements.
Al-Bayati concluded by saying that the next phase requires political calm and a focus on the stability of the state, avoiding escalation of positions or preempting future events. He emphasized that the coordination framework is committed to supporting initiatives that preserve Iraq’s security and sovereignty.
