A source close to the Coordination Framework revealed on Monday that the meeting scheduled for this evening by the framework’s leaders will be crucial in agreeing on the framework’s candidate for the premiership of the next government. The meeting will also address the mechanisms for distributing ministerial portfolios. The source indicated that Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, head of the Reconstruction and Development Alliance, met in recent days and agreed on criteria for determining the next prime ministerial candidate.
Speaking to the Information Agency on condition of anonymity, the source stated, “The leaders of the Coordination Framework will hold an important meeting this evening to discuss the nomination of the next prime minister.” He clarified that “the names circulating in the media are merely for public consumption, and the actual number of candidates being considered within the framework does not exceed nine.” He added that
“Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, head of the Reconstruction and Development Alliance, held an important meeting during which they agreed on a set of criteria for the position of prime minister, which will be presented to the framework’s leaders at today’s meeting.”
The source indicated that the meeting will also discuss the distribution of ministerial portfolios within the coordination framework, according to the political balance and electoral weight of each party.
