The Iraqi Parliament Presidency discussed on Sunday the possibility of holding eight sessions of the Parliament per month, by examining the preparations and preparing a monthly agenda for these sessions.
The media office of the Speaker of Parliament, Hebat al-Halbousi, told Shafaq News Agency that he “held a meeting with First Deputy Speaker Adnan Faihan and Second Deputy Speaker Farhad Amin al-Atroushi, and the meeting discussed a number of files related to the work of the Council, and emphasized the importance of activating the oversight and legislative role of the Parliament during the coming period.”
The meeting also discussed, according to the statement, preparations and the creation of a monthly agenda that includes eight sessions per month.
The importance and speed of forming the council’s standing committees was emphasized, in order for them to play their full role, and to begin those steps by forming a committee of the heads of the parliamentary blocs in tomorrow’s session, Monday, as stated in the same statement.
The statement indicated that the committee “is responsible for submitting a proposal to the Speaker of the House and his deputies that includes the distribution of members of the House of Representatives to the parliamentary committees according to the internal regulations and electoral entitlements, taking into account the specialization.”
The media department of the Iraqi parliament published, last Saturday, the agenda for the second session of the sixth electoral term, first legislative year, first chapter of the council.
The agenda for the session scheduled for next Monday, January 5, 2026, includes only three items: voting on the internal regulations of the House of Representatives, forming a committee to select members of parliamentary committees according to the internal regulations of the House, and the third item includes “general discussions”.
The Iraqi parliament held its first session of its new term on December 29th.
