A security expert denies the closure of US aircraft runways at Ain al-Asad base in AnbarInformation/Baghdad…
Security expert Qatari al-Samarmad denied on Sunday reports that US forces had relocated or closed American airfields within the Ain al-Asad Air Base complex in western Anbar.
Al-Samarmad told the Information Agency that “the US forces’ runways within the Ain al-Asad Air Base complex in the al-Baghdadi district of Hit, western Anbar, are still operating normally and were not included in the evacuation operations or the transfer of their crews to al-Harir Air Base in northern Iraq.”
He added that “US forces have constructed several airfields within the base complex, in addition to carrying out an expansion that included the construction of new buildings.” He explained that “US forces previously established an airfield for B-52 bombers, which are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, and it is the only airfield in Iraq for this type of aircraft.”
He emphasized that “the reports claiming that takeoffs and landings within the Ain al-Asad Air Base complex were halted following the closure of military and civilian runways are completely false, and all are operating without interruption, around the clock.”
