The head of the political body of the National Tribal Movement, Abdul Rahman Al-Jazaeri, confirmed that the political scene is heading towards a change in the leadership of the government, in light of a clear Sunni-Kurdish rejection of renewing the term of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, noting that the final decision remains in the hands of the coordination framework.
Al-Jazairi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that current political indicators confirm that there is no acceptance of renewing Al-Sudani’s term, noting that “the Sunni and Kurdish components explicitly reject the idea of a second term, which makes the chances of renewal almost non-existent in the next stage.”
He added that any “path leading to the position of Prime Minister cannot be achieved without the approval of the coordination framework, indicating that talk of moves outside this framework, or betting on getting closer to the White House, is no longer useful in light of the current regional and international changes.”
Al-Jazairi indicated that “the coordinating framework has decided on its choice regarding the next prime minister, stressing that the alternative figure is ‘ready and has been chosen,’ awaiting the appropriate political timing to announce it within comprehensive understandings with the rest of the forces.”
The Algerian’s remarks come at a time of escalating speculation about the shape of the next political phase, and anticipation of a new settlement that could redraw the map of governance.
