MP Ahmed al-Moussawi confirmed on Tuesday that the current parliamentary session will witness the passage of a package of important laws, as part of fulfilling legislative obligations and addressing key issues of concern to the Iraqi public.
Al-Moussawi explained to the Information Agency that “the Coordination Framework advised the head of the Azm Alliance, Mahmoud al-Samarrai, not to deviate from the Sunni agreement,” noting that “the understandings reached within the Sunni component were achieved with the direct support of the Coordination Framework, which is considered the largest player in the political process.”
He added that “the withdrawal of both Mohammed al-Halbousi and Muthanna al-Samarrai from the nomination race came at the request of the Coordination Framework in order to preserve political consensus and prevent further complications within Parliament.”
Regarding the position of Prime Minister, al-Moussawi stressed that “this entitlement will be resolved according to the specified constitutional timelines, without any delay,” pointing out that “most leaders of the Coordination Framework are leaning towards not renewing the current Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, for a second term.”
