On Tuesday, Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, hosted a special exhibition of classic cars with the participation of dozens of enthusiasts and collectors, in an event that attracted the attention of hundreds of lovers of old and rare models, amidst an atmosphere that revived memories of the streets in the last century.

Dozens of cars of various models from different time periods participated in the show, where the “beauties of the good old days” were lined up in one of the public squares, reflecting the passion of the people of the region to acquire and restore these vehicles, which are considered a historical legacy that goes beyond being just a means of transportation.

Mohammed Mirani, one of the participants in the show, told Shafaq News Agency: “I am participating today with a car dating back to the 1970s. The goal of our presence is not just to show off, but to preserve this type of mechanical art that has begun to disappear.”

He added that “these events allow us to exchange experiences on maintenance methods and obtain rare spare parts that we find very difficult to provide.”

For his part, Iyad, another classic car owner, spoke about the importance of the event, saying, “This gathering represents a cultural and social identity for Erbil, as classic cars express an era of sophistication and unique design.”

He explained that “there is great interest from the new generation in these cars, and these festivals contribute to encouraging tourism and showing the civilized and aesthetic side of the city.”

At the end of the event, the participants were not satisfied with the static display, but the cars set off on a group tour that toured a number of the main streets of Erbil, forming a “caravan of the past” that impressed passersby and drivers of modern cars, who were keen to take commemorative photos of this mobile display that adorned the roads of the region’s capital.
