The Ministry of Transport reported rapid progress in preparing the detailed cumulative designs for the strategic development road project, as part of its plans to develop transport infrastructure and enhance Iraq’s position as a regional logistics corridor, amid international competition and interest in participating in the project.
The Ministry’s Media Office Director, Maitham Al-Safi, told Al-Sabah newspaper that the detailed, cumulative designs for the Development Road project have become more centralized and precise, aligning with the technical and engineering requirements adopted for major strategic projects. He noted that the design completion rates have reached 87 percent for the railway line and 73 percent for the road line. These percentages reflect the significant efforts exerted by the technical and engineering staff in cooperation with specialized consulting firms, adhering to the highest international standards. He indicated that the current phase focuses on finalizing the precise technical details of the routes and stations, ensuring their integration with future operational requirements, while also considering environmental, economic, and security aspects. He explained that the Development Road project is one of the most important strategic projects adopted by the government, given its pivotal role in supporting the national economy, revitalizing the transport and logistics sectors, and transforming Iraq into a hub connecting East and West.
He added that the ministry is proceeding with the project according to the established timelines, paving the way for the practical implementation phases after fulfilling all technical and procedural requirements. He noted that several countries have expressed clear interest in participating in the Development Road project, given its strategic importance in connecting trade routes and enhancing regional and international transport. He explained that the project is receiving close attention from countries and international companies specializing in transport, infrastructure, and investment, indicating that this interest reflects growing confidence in the project, its economic viability, and its pivotal role in supporting development.
