Masrour Barzani comments on the oil agreement - It will be the basis for the budget and the legislation of the oil and gas lawShafaq News/ The Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani considered, on Tuesday, the agreement reached by Erbil and Baghdad to resume Kurdistan’s oil exports as a basis for proceeding with the legislation of the oil and gas law, and approving the country’s financial budget.

Earlier today, the Kurdistan Regional Government signed an agreement with the federal government on the oil file.

This came during a visit by Masrour Barzani, which he conducted today with a high-ranking delegation from the regional government to Baghdad, and his meeting with the Prime Minister of the federal government, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani.

The agreement includes granting the position of Deputy Director General of the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company “SOMO” to the Kurds, provided that the regional government hands over the oil file to the federal government, which is supervised by the company.

Masrour Barzani said in a joint press conference held in Baghdad today with Al-Sudani that “this agreement is temporary, and will be the basis for proceeding with the legislation of the financial budget law and even in the legislation of the oil and gas law,” stressing that “the export of oil is in the interest of all Iraqis.”

He added, “Stopping oil exports not only harmed the Kurdistan Region, but also affected all of Iraq, and now this mechanism that was agreed upon to resume exports will be a reason for increasing the financial revenues of all of Iraq.”

Barzani added, “Al-Sudani acted as president for all of Iraq,” stressing that “this agreement will be implemented with the support of Al-Sudani.”

He added, “Here I would like to reassure all parties that this agreement is a prelude to reaching a good comprehensive agreement between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government without giving up any constitutional right for us.”

Masrour Barzani stressed that although this agreement is temporary, its foundations will have an impact on the draft budget law and the oil and gas law.
