(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) MP Mansour Al-Baiji confirmed, today, Wednesday, that the country’s general budget will pass by a majority inside the parliament and there is unanimity among the deputies to pass it after it has settled and amended all its paragraphs except for the region’s share that has not yet been settled.
Al-Baiji said in a statement that Al-Furat News received a copy of, that “after the consensus that occurred among the deputies on the disagreement over the account of our governorates in the country’s general budget, as was the case previously with the regional government, signatures were collected to present the budget law at the nearest session in order for it to be passed because it was delayed. “This delay cannot continue because the only victims of it are all the Iraqi people.”
Al-Baiji added, “The regional government must obey the law and the constitution, just as other provinces are, and hand over all its revenues to the central government, and not to procrastinate on that, because our Kurdish people are the ones affected and they must realize very well that the regional government is the reason.”
And he added: “Therefore, justice must be applied between all governorates and the region, because it is not possible or reasonable to hand over a share to the Kurdistan Regional Government, and it does not hand over to the federal government anything. Therefore if the regional government wants its share in the budget, it must surrender its revenues in full, otherwise we will not vote on its share in the budget. This year, as happened with the law on borrowing. ”
Earlier, the Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, had directed that the draft federal budget bill for 2021 be included in the parliament session scheduled for next Monday.
A statement by Al-Halbousi’s office, Al-Furat News received a copy of it, stated that “the latter’s directive came at the request of Representative Yusef Al-Kalabi, signed by 150 deputies.”
