The Iraqi parliament closes its doors tonight and disputes arose with two paragraphs in the budgetShafaq News / On Wednesday, the head of a parliamentary bloc ruled out a session of the Iraqi parliament at the present time due to disagreements over two paragraphs in the general budget law, indicating that the first legislative term ends after midnight.

The head of the Bayariq al-Khair bloc, Muhammad al-Khalidi, told Shafaq News, “The first legislative term ends at midnight this evening, after the Presidency of Parliament extended the legislative term at the beginning of last month.”

Al-Khalidi, who is the parliament’s rapporteur in the previous session, added that “the presidency of parliament is not empowered to extend the legislative term for another month, but rather that parliament members hold a session and vote on extending the legislative favor for another month.”

Al-Khalidi pointed out that “holding a session at the present time is very unlikely due to disagreements over some articles of the budget law, most notably the oil agreement between Baghdad and Erbil and the tax deduction for state employees’ salaries,” noting that “holding the next session is linked to the Finance Committee’s end of discussing the budget law and the law’s readiness to vote.” “.

Earlier, Ali Al-Budairi, a deputy for the parliamentary wisdom bloc, suggested that the House of Representatives hold a session this evening, Tuesday, to vote on the General Budget Law.

Representatives confirm that the outstanding problems between Baghdad and Erbil regarding the budget are still present until now, with continuous efforts to reach a settlement.
