Urgent Parliament announces the date of its first session in the new legislative term{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The House of Representatives set the date for its first session in the new legislative term, which began on Thursday.
The Secretary-General of the Council, Sirwan Abdullah, informed the members of parliament in a statement, which Al-Furat News Agency received a copy of, that the House of Representatives will hold its first session of the first legislative term for the third legislative year on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at one o’clock in the afternoon in the building of the Council.
Yesterday, the House of Representatives Secretariat called on “all concerned departments to take the necessary measures and prepare the necessary requirements and preparations for the holding of the sessions, and the meetings of the permanent and temporary committees, and to prepare for the sessions through the closed-circuit television if the situation requires health.”
On August 12, the House of Representatives issued a clarifying statement regarding the suspension of the sessions, which came due to the recommendations and decisions of the Crisis and National Safety Cell, and that it is awaiting the decision of this body concerned with the Corona pandemic, for the parliament sessions to reconvene normally and continuously, as it was before the spread of the pandemic.
It is noteworthy that more than 50 MPs in Parliament are infected with Coronavirus, according to official statistics, some of them are in critical condition, while Representative Ghaida Kampash died of the epidemic, which caused the sessions to be suspended.
On the 24th of last month, the Council’s First Vice President, Hassan Al Kaabi, announced that he had been infected with the pandemic.
The number of members of the Iraqi parliament is 329.
