The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Sabah al-Nu’man, announced on Thursday evening that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi had assumed the duties of the head of the intelligence service from a lower position.
Al-Nu’man said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “in implementation of the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, and during his visit today to the headquarters of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces assumed the duties of the presidency of the Service from a lower position, given the level of current challenges, which are accompanied by the plan to complete sovereignty.”
Earlier today, Al-Zaydi stressed that the intelligence service must be kept away from partisan, factional and sectarian quotas, during his visit to the agency’s headquarters.
It is noted that Al-Zaydi issued an order last Monday to terminate Hamid Al-Shatri’s assignment as head of the intelligence service.
Hamid al-Shatri was assigned to his position in December 2024, during the government of former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.
