Al-Mayahi - The budget is still in the governments drawers and the figures being circulated are mere speculationThe head of the Al-Bayan parliamentary bloc, Abdul Amir Al-Mayahi, confirmed on Sunday that the draft federal budget law has not yet reached the Council of Representatives. He denied that it had been voted on within the Council of Ministers, stating that the figures and financial allocations circulating regarding it are not based on officially announced data. Al-
Mayahi told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The general budget is still with the executive authorities and has not been included on the parliamentary agenda because it has not yet received the approval and vote of the cabinet.” He explained that “setting dates for its reading and discussion in parliament depends on the government committees finalizing their observations and the official vote on it within the Council of Ministers.”
He added that “the details regarding the size of the expenditure, the deficit, and the operational and investment allocations have not been officially announced,” noting that “the estimates and figures circulating in the media and on social media platforms are not based on final documents as long as the draft law has not completed its preparation and ratification procedures.”
He explained that “the House of Representatives and its specialized committees, foremost among them the Finance Committee, cannot begin the tasks of auditing, legislation, and budget transfers before the draft is officially referred from the Prime Minister’s office,” emphasizing that Parliament is awaiting the arrival of the approved version to begin reading and discussing it.
Al-Mayahi pointed out that “the Iraqi public and economic circles are eagerly awaiting the details of the budget, given its importance in funding service and development projects and disbursing entitlements and salaries,” warning that continued government delays could affect the pace of reconstruction and the financial obligations of ministries and governorates.
He called on the Council of Ministers to “expedite the finalization of the budget items and send them to Parliament to avoid any potential financial and service-related repercussions.”
