The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced on Thursday the reopening of air routes between Iraq and Kuwait, which had recently been suspended due to security developments and regional tensions.
The ministry explained in an official statement that the technical efforts resulted in reaching operational arrangements, under the supervision of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and in cooperation with the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
She added that these understandings entered into force today, October 15, 2026, at 11:00 UTC, following the completion of official procedures and confirmations between the concerned parties.
According to the statement, under these arrangements, air traffic is managed according to specific flight paths and levels, ensuring operational coordination, safe separation between aircraft, and adherence to the highest standards of safety and air security in Iraqi airspace.
The ministry added that this mechanism is being implemented gradually, with continuous monitoring and evaluation during the implementation period, with the aim of identifying and addressing any technical or operational observations in coordination with relevant authorities, in order to ensure the stability of procedures and the efficiency of their implementation.
