A security source in Anbar province reported on Monday that security forces raided several currency exchange offices in Fallujah in search of individuals manipulating the dollar exchange rate.
The source told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “Security forces raided several currency exchange offices in Fallujah following information indicating the presence of individuals manipulating the official dollar exchange rate in a move that could affect the stock market for profit.”
The source added that “the force has arrest warrants for the dollar speculators and will refer them to the judiciary,” explaining that “a number of merchants control the dollar exchange rate in Anbar with the help and support of influential political figures.” The source
continued, “Several currency exchange offices closed their doors and permanently ceased dealing in dollars after the owners received information that a force from Baghdad was coming to pursue the dollar exchange rate speculators.”
