The Central Bank of Iraq confirmed on Monday that electronic payment cards operate at the official approved rate to meet the needs of citizens abroad. A statement from the bank said that “what was circulated by one of the news agencies, quoting an unknown source, claiming that (the bank returned amounts worth 600 billion dinars because it did not adopt the previous rate of 1320 dinars per dollar, but rather demanded that the amount be increased at the current exchange rate of 1520 dinars per dollar), is completely false.”
The bank also confirmed that “external transfer requests submitted to banks before 7/10/2026 will be processed at the old exchange rate without additional costs, and has begun receiving and processing those requests.”
He added that “all electronic payment cards operate according to the official approved rate to meet the requirements of citizens abroad,” stressing “what was stated in the letter of the Media and Communications Commission (to adopt accuracy in everything published and broadcast regarding the exchange rate, markets and salaries and to verify it and its competent sources before publication), otherwise legal measures will be taken by this bank against any entity that publishes rumors and misleading news.”
