Member of Parliament, Ahmed al-Shammari, called on the al-Zaidi government on Saturday to conduct a comprehensive and urgent review of the number of advisors serving all officials and to reduce them to reasonable levels. He stressed that reducing government spending must be a top priority in addressing the current financial crisis facing the country.
Al-Shammari told the Information Agency, “Reducing the number of advisors for all government officials in the Presidency, ministries, and other departments has become an absolute necessity. Their presence should be limited to what is technically and actually needed, in order to end the phenomenon of disguised unemployment within the hierarchy of power.”
He added, “The package of financial reforms must include a genuine reduction in the salaries and allowances of those holding special grades, and a serious review of the issue of double salaries, whether legalized by law or otherwise.” He also emphasized “the importance of limiting and regulating government delegations, both domestic and international, which consume enormous sums from the general budget.”
It is worth noting that the Coordination Framework presented a package of proposals last Thursday following the increase in the dollar exchange rate against the Iraqi dinar, calling on the government and the Central Bank to begin implementing them immediately.
