The exchange rate of the US dollar recorded a decline in the markets of Baghdad and Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, on Saturday morning, as trading began at the start of the week, coinciding with the implementation of the new dollar selling rate by the Central Bank of Iraq.

A Shafaq News Agency correspondent said that the dollar prices fell in the Al-Kifah and Al-Harithiya exchanges in Baghdad to 163,600 Iraqi dinars per 100 dollars, compared to 166,800 dinars on Thursday morning.

The selling price in Baghdad’s currency exchange shops reached 164,000 dinars for 100 dollars, while the buying price reached 163,000 dinars.

In Erbil, the dollar prices witnessed a similar decline, with the selling price recording 163,500 dinars per 100 dollars, and the buying price 163,400 dinars.

The Iraqi Cabinet decided last Tuesday to amend the exchange rate of the dollar based on an emergency recommendation submitted by the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank, so that the purchase price from the Ministry of Finance would be (1500) dinars, the selling price to banks would be (1510) dinars, and the selling price to the end beneficiary would be (1520) dinars per dollar.

Under the new amendment, the Central Bank raised the exchange rate for the public by 20,000 dinars per 100 dollars, compared to the previous rate of 1,320 dinars per dollar (132,000 dinars per 100 dollars), at a time when the parallel market witnessed jumps prior to the decision to reach about 165,000 dinars per 100 dollars, influenced by leaks and expectations.
