Currency exchange offices in Anbar province closed their doors on Wednesday following a sudden rise in the dollar exchange rate, which reached 170,000 dinars per 100 dollars.

Amin Al-Dulaimi, one of the owners of exchange offices in Anbar, told Al-Maalouma Agency that “the exchange offices spread throughout the cities of Anbar have stopped buying and selling the dollar currency due to the rise in the exchange rate to 170,000 dinars per 100 dollars without knowing the real reasons behind its rise.”

He added that “the dollar transaction process has been suspended in exchange offices in Anbar until its price, set by the Central Bank, stabilizes,” explaining that “the dollar exchange rate rose suddenly to more than 168,000 dinars, and this rise caused chaos in the buying and selling process in exchange offices and private banks, and their inability to deal in light of the unstable prices.”

He confirmed that “currency exchange offices have completely closed their doors in all cities of Anbar until further notice.”
