The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs in the Kurdistan Region denied on Wednesday receiving an air defense system, in response to what local media outlets and social media pages had reported regarding a source in the ministry claiming that an air defense system had arrived at the ministry.
The ministry said in a statement that no official source in the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs had made any statement in this regard, stressing that this news is completely false and we deny it in its entirety.
The statement confirmed that no air defense systems of any kind had reached the Ministry of Peshmerga.
This comes in conjunction with the call by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, on Tuesday, for the federal government in Baghdad to provide the region with air defense systems to counter the drone attacks that Kurdistan is subjected to from time to time, while ruling out the possibility of the return of terrorist groups’ activity in Iraq after the withdrawal of the international coalition led by the United States.
