After a hiatus of more than half a century - Iraqi Line prepares to return to the GulfShafaq News – Baghdad
The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced on Monday that the Iraqi Shipping Line is ready to resume its commercial shipping activity in the Gulf region, after a hiatus of more than half a century, with its first voyages scheduled to depart on October 15 from Jebel Ali Port in the UAE towards Umm Qasr Port in Iraq.

The ministry said in a statement, received by Shafaq News Agency, that the return of the Iraqi maritime line will bring the national maritime carrier back to regional trade routes and provide a national option for transporting containers and goods.

She added that this step aims to enhance the movement of goods through Iraqi ports, support trade with countries in the region, and increase the presence of the national carrier in regional maritime transport routes.

The ministry stated that the last voyages of Iraqi cargo ships in the region date back to the mid-1960s, making the resumption of the maritime route a milestone in the process of reactivating national carriers and developing the Iraqi maritime transport sector.
