The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Nu’man, announced on Sunday the arrest of those involved in the desecration of the American flag during the Sovereignty Day celebration.
Al-Nu’man said in a statement: “ In implementation of the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Falih al-Zaidi, the competent authorities arrested those involved in the transgression against the American flag in Baghdad, which accompanied one of the parades during the ‘Sovereignty Day’ events, as well as emphasizing the accountability of everyone proven to be involved in this act, and taking legal measures against him, in accordance with Iraqi laws and diplomatic norms.”
He continued, “The government affirms that respecting the symbols of friendly countries and diplomatic missions accredited to Iraq is a legal and diplomatic obligation, and that any transgression or abuse in this regard will be subject to legal accountability.”
A short while ago, Al-Nu’man announced that an order had been issued by Commander-in-Chief Ali Al-Zaidi to form an investigative committee to look into the circumstances of the transgression that accompanied one of the parades during the “Sovereignty Day” events, against the flag of the United States of America .
