A U.S. official reported on Thursday that the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt had left San Diego with its strike group and was heading towards the vicinity of Iran in the Middle East.

The official told Al Jazeera that the Marine Expeditionary Force “Maicon Island” left San Diego last Monday, heading to the region, with more than 2,000 Marines on board.

He added that three aircraft carriers and two landing groups would be deployed around Iran by the end of November.

The official noted that deploying these forces in the Middle East would give American leaders many options for dealing with Iran.

Just moments ago, US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of resuming intensive bombing of Iran after the US midterm elections.

Trump told Time magazine: “I wanted the Iran war to be short at the beginning, but now I will continue the mission to the end.”

Trump continued: “What I rejected at the beginning of negotiations with Iran, I will reject today,” explaining that “Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz for a short time, but control is ours now.”

These statements come at a time when Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that Iran will never evade dialogue with the United States, while Tehran studies the American response to the terms of the negotiations.

The seven-day Iranian plan calls for a cessation of all hostilities in Iran and Lebanon, the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, and an end to the US blockade of Iranian ports.

Under the plan, Tehran would then allow the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened to navigation, and the two sides would resume negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
