Fox News published a photo documenting the departure of the last American soldier and aircraft from Erbil Air Base, coinciding with the completion of the withdrawal of American forces and equipment from Iraq and the end of Operation Inherent Resolve in the country.
The US Central Command announced on Wednesday that the departure of US forces and equipment from Erbil Air Base has been completed, thus ending the military mission of the international coalition against the terrorist organization ISIS in Iraq, after nearly 12 years since the operation began.
The release of the image coincides with the United States officially announcing the end of its military mission in Iraq, a move that ended the military presence associated with Operation Inherent Resolve within the country, as the security relationship between Baghdad and Washington transitions to a bilateral framework.
According to Fox News, the completion of the departure of troops and equipment from Erbil ended the American military mission in Iraq, while the command of the Combined Joint Task Force for Operation Inherent Resolve moved to Jordan, with operations continuing against ISIS in Syria.
