The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) expressed its rejection on Wednesday of the 2027 budget allocations that are scheduled to be approved by the federal government and the House of Representatives, stressing its adherence to the 14% share for the region based on the general population census.
This position was expressed by the spokesman for the regional government, Peshwa Hawrami, during a press conference he held after a session of the regional cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and his deputy, Qubad Talabani.
During the conference, Horamani said that the Kurdistan Region’s actual share of the federal general budget should be 14%, not 12.67%, which contradicts the results of the population census conducted by Baghdad itself, so we completely reject the latter percentage.
He added that “the salaries of Kurdistan Regional Government employees should be guaranteed within the federal general budget and separated from all political disputes,” noting that more than one million beneficiaries received their salaries through the government’s “My Account” project, saying: The era of long waiting to receive salaries in Kurdistan is over.
The spokesman for the regional government called for the Iraqi Minister of Planning to be hosted in the House of Representatives to discuss the Kurdistan Region’s share of the federal general budget.
