Former member of parliament Riyad al-Masoudi revealed on Tuesday that more than 60 trillion dinars are secured inside the homes of corrupt individuals and outside the control of the banking system in Iraq.
Al-Masoudi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “more than 60 trillion dinars are secured in the homes of corrupt individuals, and the movement of these funds is controlled by influential entities outside the authority of the banking system in Iraq and are not subject to the laws of the central government.”
He added that “the large sums of money found in homes and farms belong to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Adnan al-Jumaili, as well as the huge sums seized by Noor Zuhair, all of which are deposited outside the authority of the government banking system.”
He explained that “more than 3,000 influential political figures own more than 50 billion dinars, and most of these funds are not deposited with the Central Bank or private banks, and it is not possible to control the movement of funds in light of the deposit of sums of money outside the control of the central government.”
He stressed that “Iraq needs to pass a law obligating everyone to deposit funds in the Central Bank or government and private banks.”
